Vintage 1960s Black Moss Crepe Maxi Dress By Ossie Clark

Description

This is a stunning dress from the late 1960s by the famous British Fashion Designer Ossie Clark for Radley. It's made from his famous Moss Crepe fabric and flows beautifully showing off his mastery of cutting, comfort and the sensual power of his design. The top has a button neckline of 9 buttons and can be worn buttoned right up to the top of the collar, or as unbuttoned and open to your waist as you dare! We have buttoned it up to the top for these photos. There is a long tie on the front of the dress which wraps around your back and ties under your bust line / above your waist. The turned up cuffs are fixed with two round buttons. This dress is highly collectible and can be worn day or night. It's truly flattering will really ensure you stand out from the crowd.

The dress label advises that this dress is a size 12, however this is the vintage size 12, and due to it's very relaxed fit all the way down we would suggest that it would fit a modern size 8, 10 or a small 12.

The measurements are as follows:

Bust: Approx 36 inches
Waist: Approx 36 inches
Hips: Approx 42 inches - but the fabric is very loose and flowing.
Length: Approx 56 inches
Sleeve length: Approx 25 inches

Please check your measurements carefully and feel free to call us with any questions on 0131 225 4400.

Note that the dress is shown on a size 10 mannequin.

Each vintage piece discovered by Those Were The Days has been handpicked by our team of experts so that we can ensure it is in excellent vintage condition and is of a high quality. Everything in our collection has been cleaned and restored where this is possible, and has been inspected by two team members before being sold to ensure our strict quality and condition criteria are met. However, all vintage items have generally been previously worn, so gentle signs of wear are usually an inherent part of the piece. Sometimes a piece is simply too wonderful to pass up just because it has a little age related wear and tear that can't be remedied, so where this is the case with any of our items we will let you know about any little imperfections.

This dress is in immaculate vintage condition.

When we purchase a piece for our collection we always endeavour to discover it's provenance, but sometimes this is not possible. We date the pieces on knowledge gained when buying the item, our research and our experience of dating and working with vintage products. However, sometimes a slight element of guesswork is involved, particularly if a piece is potentially from the end of one era or the start of another.

We believe that this dress dates from the late 1960s - possibly 1969.

Vintage clothing sizes can vary greatly from current sizes so for this reason we advise customers to ignore the size labels on any of our items and instead compare the item’s measurements to their own body measurements.  To help with sizing and aid with filtering of the site we also offer an approximate comparison to modern sizes.  For some items we have offered an approximation to 2 sizes, where they are a looser fit or have stretch in the fabric.  In order to avoid any disappointment please check these measurements carefully.  We also advise that for your own comfort you allow an extra inch on top of your body measurements to allow you to breathe and move around easily in the item.

We measure garments as follows:

Bust:  across the fullest part of the bust

Waist:  across the narrowest part of the waistline or across the waistband

Hips:  across the fullest part, generally 8 inches below the waist

Length:  from mid shoulder / top of waist band to bottom hem

Sleeves:  from outer shoulder seam to cuff

Our garments are measured flat and then doubled.
